Will Create Jobs, Revitalize Farms and Economic Development
The New England Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association is urging state senators to support passage of the long-anticipated sports betting legislation that passed the House last year. The current bill includes language that would help support development of a new thoroughbred racetrack and equine center by allow wagering on smart phones for live thoroughbred racing.
In a letter to state senators, the NEHBPA wrote that a broad coalition of breeders, horsemen and women, family farmers, suppliers, vendors, veterinarians, and equine enthusiasts would directly benefit from the legislation.
“There are many benefits for the Commonwealth in the sports wagering bill, but none may be as tangible as the effect that the bill would have on our rural economy with live thoroughbred racing,” the NEHBPA coalition wrote. “With the inclusion of a mobile platform in the legislation, and the consent of the gaming commission, live thoroughbred racing is an opportunity to create jobs, help revitalize family farms, agriculture and rural economic development.”
