Obituary: Frank Anthony Amonte

September 5, 1935 ~ November 3, 2020 (age 85)

Frank A. Amonte, 85 of Winthrop MA, formerly Revere MA and Brooklyn NY, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

Frank was a thoroughbred race jockey and trainer for over sixty years. He began racing and training at Belmont Park in NY. He rode all over the country and as well as in Cuba. Frank was the oldest winning jockey in the United States. He rode his last race at the age of 76. Thoroughbred racing and horses was his love and passion. That love and passion was passed down to many members of his family.

Beloved husband of fifty years to Ligia Morales Amonte.

Devoted father to Lisa Gutierrez and husband Ray of Orlando FL, Doreen Amonte-Araujo of Winthrop MA, April Esposito and husband Joshua of Windham NH, Andrew Amonte of N.Y. and the late Theresa Candido.

Dear brother to the late Eva, Josephine, Madeline, and Marie.

Cherished grandfather of Raymond, LeAnn, and Analise Gutierrez, Noah Araujo, Ava and Eli Esposito, Deidra and Andrew Amonte, and Nicole and Bianca Candido.

Treasured great-grandfather of Santino Gutierrez, Romeo Mann, Julianne Gutierrez, Cameron Nichols, and Melody Moscow.

Family and friends will honor Frank’s life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, (Orient Heights) East Boston, on Saturday, November 7th, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. A prayer service will be held in our Serenity Chapel at 1:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Frank’s name to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 or online to their website www.heart.org.

All services will be held in accordance with Phase-3 of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts phased reopening plan due to COVID-19. Face coverings are required to be worn and social distancing measures are encouraged
