President’s Message by Anthony Spadea, Jr

Dear Members, Supporters and Fans:

It has been three years since any live racing in Massachusetts.   The NEHBPA ran racing festivals for 5 years 2015-2019 to help trainers, horsemen and breeders along with all the employment to run and maintain the racing facility.  We helped many local individuals that benefitted from these events.

Over the past 3 years we all have come to realize how difficult it is to secure a community that would welcome thoroughbred racing.  The constant efforts and endless hours of the NEHBPA and its Executive Director to restore racing will continue as we pursue prospects in several Massachusetts communities.

We were successful in 2022 in our efforts on Beacon Hill to secure language around the sports betting bill that would grant a license if a race track is built.  This has drawn interest by investors who realize an additional revenue stream is a necessity today to operate a facility.  Today all race tracks built in the past 15 years have other income producing activities to support racing like the needs of historical gaming and casinos.

We will continue to work diligently towards the return of live racing and preservation of our organization and the many benefits we offer our members

Sincerely
Anthony Spadea
President, of the NEHBPA
